Trump Denies Death Toll From Hurricane Maria

Despite the number of deceased coming from an independent source, Trump takes to Twitter to blame Democrats for making up the numbers "in order to make me look as bad as possible."

This morning Donald Trump took to Twitter and made more claims about Hurricane Maria and its effects on the island of Puerto Rico. In two tweets, the president stated that:

“3000 people did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico. When I left the Island, AFTER the storm had hit, they had anywhere from 6 to 18 deaths. As time went by it did not go up by much. Then, a long time later, they started to report really large numbers, like 3000…

…..This was done by the Democrats in order to make me look as bad as possible when I was successfully raising Billions of Dollars to help rebuild Puerto Rico. If a person died for any reason, like old age, just add them onto the list. Bad politics. I love Puerto Rico!”

Once again, this is entirely unacceptable behavior from a sitting president to be spouting off this kind of conspiracy theory nonsense

As both CNN and NBC News are reporting, the findings that listed those numbers come from George Washington University’s Milken Institute of Public Health.

Once again, this is entirely unacceptable behavior from a sitting president to be spouting off this kind of conspiracy theory nonsense. It’s not like Democratic senators just made these numbers up and started accusing Trump of killing these people.

This was a scientific study done by a health organization that specializes in this sort of thing.

None of that matters to our president, though. Facts mean nothing. The only thing that matters to Trump, on any subject or event, is pretty simple; does it make him look good or does it make him look bad. That’s it! That’s the entire extent of evaluation that he gives to any topic. If it makes him look good then it’s absolutely true and everybody needs to come see how good he looks. If it makes him look bad, well… Fake news, stupid people, crooked Democrats, liberal media, gremlins, space aliens, and Aunt Bertha are all behind it and out to get him, even though he’s obviously the coolest and has never done anything wrong.

Since the findings of the report do not reflect well on Trump, he made up some fantasy where this magically had something to do with Democrats in a pathetic effort to deflect any blame from himself

Let’s just say it clearly once again for those in the back. This was an independent study, not a hit job. Experts went into Puerto Rico and, doing what they’ve studied for and been trained to do, got as close to an accurate number as they could, and presented their research to the world. Since the findings of the report do not reflect well on Trump, he made up some fantasy where this magically had something to do with Democrats in a pathetic effort to deflect any blame from himself. In the meantime, thousands of deceased US citizens are now being outright dismissed by the president without a second thought. The president denying their existence as their loved ones try to deal with that grief while still working to rebuild their homes. It’s absolutely disgusting.

If anybody 20 years ago had written a book or movie about this presidency it would have been laughed out of the room as one of the most ridiculous and unbelievable stories they’d ever heard. There’s no way that any person, let alone a sitting president, could be that terrible of a human being. Not only be terrible, though, but be that bad and still have anybody supporting him. There’s just no way…

This denying of facts, the denying of any reality that doesn’t fit his agenda, is not okay. This is not how a president is supposed to act, and I beg of you not to forget that. The United States of American can one day return to being a nation based around decency towards our fellow human beings, but it’s up to us to change it. Trump, whether on purpose or not, is doing his best to turn us all against each other. It’s on us to start acting sensibly and treating others with respect, often times when they least deserve it. We cannot be dragged down into Trump’s pool of hate and ignorance, and we cannot let his bullying tactics rub off on us and make us start name calling and insulting anybody who doesn’t agree with us. Be the sensible ones.

Until then, I’ll say it once again… This is not okay!

And, as one last point, a quick public service announcement: The left lane is for passing only. Don’t be a jerk… Thanks!
